Kopalnia ropy naftowej w Bóbrce

Bóbrka, podkarpackie

An oil mine opened here in 1854, regarded as the first in the world, and it is still working. Today it is also an open-air museum of the oil industry, with hand-dug shafts including Franek and Janina, the latter 132 metres deep. A stone obelisk raised by Ignacy Łukasiewicz in 1872 stands in the middle of the site. It is listed as a Polish Historic Monument.
