Kollegiatstift, später Benediktinerkloster St. Maria, Lambach, Österreich

Lambach, Oberösterreich

This Benedictine abbey beside the Traun has housed monks since 1056. A guided tour takes in the Romanesque frescoes, the Baroque theatre, the library and the abbey church, whose Baroque furnishings of the 17th and 18th centuries owe much to the Carlone family. The young Adolf Hitler attended the monastery school here in 1897/98 and saw the swastika in the building's carved decoration.
