Johann-Heinrich-Voß-Literaturmuseum

Otterndorf, Niedersachsen

Johann Heinrich Voß lived here with his family from 1778 to 1782, when the house served as the town's schoolmaster's residence. It was in Otterndorf that he translated Homer's Odyssey, a version still read today. The exhibition presents Voß as poet, editor, translator, outspoken writer, friend and private man, and a listening station and a multimedia station add to the story of his life and work. The carefully restored house has been open to visitors since 1999.
