Hessisches Braunkohle Bergbaumuseum

Borken, Hessen

This museum in Borken tells the story of the region's lignite mining and how the landscape changed afterwards. It combines a theme park on coal and energy, a visitor tunnel and a section on mining history. Original machinery from mining and power generation is on show, and much of it is demonstrated in operation. There is also an information centre on the Borkener See, plus hands-on areas and experiment workshops for children aged 6 to 14.
