Grube Frischglück

Neuenbürg, Baden-Württemberg

This mine near Neuenbürg in the Enz valley produced manganese-bearing brown iron ore from 1770 to 1866; at around 50 percent iron, it was prized for steelmaking. Since 1985 visitors have been able to go underground. Mining here goes back much further, as Celts were already working iron ore around 500 BC.
