Grenzmuseum Sorge

Oberharz am Brocken, Sachsen-Anhalt

This open-air museum near Sorge in the Harz sits right on the old border between East and West Germany, and the original East German border installations are still standing. You can see a stretch of fence, the dog run, parts of the signal fence, the concrete-slab patrol road, a watchtower and a border post. Right on the state line between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, the Ring of Commemoration is a large circle of dead wood made by the artist Herman Prigann in the 1990s, now a haven for birds. The site is open to all and free of charge.
