Grenzlandmuseum Bad Sachsa

Bad Sachsa, Niedersachsen

Until 1989 the border between East and West Germany ran through the southern Harz, and this museum tells the story of that division. It occupies the former Haus des Gastes, the old spa guest house in Bad Sachsa's Vitalpark, only a few kilometres from the Lower Saxony–Thuringia state line. The display covers 344 square metres, so it is compact and easy to take in on a single visit. Volunteers run it, and it first opened in 1992 in the village of Tettenborn.
