Galerie Václava Špály

Praha, Praha

A gallery on Národní třída, next to the functionalist Chicago Palace, given over to contemporary art. It shows mainly living Czech artists of the middle generation, with painting, photography and sculpture alternating through the programme. The building was remodelled in the late 1930s as a bookshop to a design by František Zelenka, and the gallery has carried the painter Václav Špála's name since 1959.
