Dat ole Huus

Bispingen, Niedersachsen

A thatched Low German hall house from 1742 in Wilsede, set in the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve. It shows how heath farmers lived and worked around 1850, with the household furnishings and tools of a heath farm. You can see the open hearth in the great kitchen hall and the owl hole in the roof that let the smoke out. Founded in 1907, it is one of Germany's oldest open-air museums, and the sheep pen at Emhoff belongs to it too.
