Burg Güssing
Güssing, Burgenland
High above the town of Güssing stands the oldest surviving castle in Burgenland, with origins in the 12th century. A border fortress facing the Holy Roman Empire and later the Ottomans, it was greatly expanded in the 16th and 17th centuries and became the family seat of the Batthyány. A visit brings the border history of western Hungary to life.
