Three museums of cultural history are gathered under one roof in Meiningen. The main part, with four departments, fills Schloss Elisabethenburg, the former residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen, on the edge of the old town by the Werra. Visitors find the largest art collection in Thuringia and the historic interiors of the ducal buildings.
