Allgäuer Burgenmuseum

Castles were more than fortresses, and this museum in Kempten shows why: they were also farmsteads, administrative centres and homes of noble families. It follows the story of Allgäu castles from the 12th and 13th centuries to today, with an emphasis on living and housekeeping. You will see archaeological finds, originals, replicas, weapons, armour, models and reconstructions. Helmets and chain mail can be handled, and there is a play castle for children.
