Museum Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz
Zittau, Sachsen
The Church of the Holy Cross holds two Lenten veils of a kind found nowhere else in Germany. The Great Zittau Veil of 1472 tells the story of God and humankind in 90 pictures, while the Small Veil of 1573 shows the Crucifixion framed by 30 symbols of the Passion. Such cloths were once hung during Lent to screen the altar from the congregation.
