This museum covers the division of Germany, everyday life under the East German dictatorship and the road to reunification, up to the questions facing the united country. It stands on Grimmaische Strasse in central Leipzig, with about 2,000 square metres of exhibition space and free admission. In front of it is Wolfgang Mattheuer's sculpture The Step of the Century.
