Steinach's castle houses the German Slate Museum, which is devoted to slate from the Thuringian Slate Mountains. The same building also holds the Steinacher Spielzeugschachtel museum, tracing the wooden toy industry of southern Thuringia, rooted around Sonneberg since the early 16th century. Two regional crafts can be explored under one roof.
