Burg Heidenreichstein is a moated castle in the northern Waldviertel, set on a low rock between a pond, a stream and ditches. Entry is over two drawbridges and a Renaissance gate. The keep probably dates from around 1160, and the roof is still shingled. Inside, furnishings from various periods survive, including some Gothic tables and chests, along with old armour and weapons.
