High above Weida stands the Osterburg, built in the 12th century as the ancestral castle of the Vögte of Weida. The museum is housed within the castle, so a visit takes in both the building and its displays. Volunteers look after the site, and its grounds include the castle wall, a vineyard and a bread oven.
