The gallery focuses on Czech and Slovak modern art, which it has collected since 1953. Its building on the Goethe Path dates from the years before the First World War, with late Art Nouveau decoration and touches of neoclassicism and Viennese modernism. Besides the main building, it has a branch in Ostrov Château and also uses the restored Becher villa.
