The site preserves original installations of the former inner-German border, along with a memorial. A trail of about 3.5 kilometres links the border monuments on the Thuringian and Bavarian sides. It also shows what life was like in the border villages: Behrungen and Berkach lay within the five-kilometre restricted zone for over 40 years.
